In episode two of season two of ‘Young Royals’, Simon can be seen unpacking his backpack. In the background, his mother is having a conversation over the phone – a conversation that has led to a lot of speculation amongst those of you who are interested in the subtext of this show: She mentions three family members and an upcoming trip around December, 12th.
Obviously, you have all picked up on the fact that this is about Simon’s metaphorical ‘baggage’, i.e. his backstory.
That big dark secret™ that he’s been keeping from everyone (including, us the audience) and that will inevitably come out and absolutely devastate Wilhelm and threaten their relationship in season three, potentially even leading to Wilhelm’s suicide attempt, as we now suspect. (Who knows…)
So, I think everyone’s curiosity was piqued when we heard Linda talking in the background of this scene just as Simon was unpacking his metaphorical ‘backpack’.
How does what she was saying there about her relatives and the trip relate to Simon’s backstory? And what could it symbolically represent?
In the post below, I will give you my take on it and show you how we can plug that information into the rest of the text and subtext, so it fits in with all the other puzzle pieces we have found so far.
If I’m correct, then this is not so much a direct fact about Simon’s backstory, but tangential information that makes the whole backstory even more complex.
Let’s see if we can ‘unpack’ this whole thing about Marcela, Javier and Iván…
